Sioux Falls man killed by car while walking
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls man was killed when he was hit by a car in the eastern part of town. • Police say it happened Friday morning and involved a vehicle that was going south on Sycamore Avenue. • Investigators are trying to figure out the cause. • Police haven't released the name of the 43-year-old man who was killed. •
3 finalists named for Minot State football coach
• MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- Minot State University has named three finalists for the school's head football coach opening. • They are Wayne State defensive coordinator Mike Aldrich, former Minnesota State-Mankato head coach and University of South Dakota offensive coordinator Todd Hoffner, and Wisconsin-Stevens Point offensive coordinator Aaron Vlcko. • More than 100 people applied for the Minot State opening. • "We had a large pool, but more importantly, we had some real depth, some quality applicants," Beavers athletic director Randy Hedberg said. "These three finalists all have extensive DII (NCAA Division II) experience and extensive NSIC experience. I felt this was important in our search." • Vlcko is scheduled to interview Saturday, while Hoffner will be on campus Monday and Aldrich on Tuesday. The school hopes to have a new coach in place by the end of the month. • The new coach will replace Paul Rudolph, who resigned on Jan. 2 after seven seasons to become the offensive coordinator at the University of North Dakota. •
Man gets 4 1/2 years for Vermillion tax scam
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A man who ran a tax refund scam with several members of the University of South Dakota football team has been sentenced. • The U.S. attorney's office says 23-year-old Charlie Frank Adams, of Tampa, Fla., was sentenced to 4 1/2 years for conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and aggravated identity theft. • Adams and 10 others were indicted on those charges and Adams earlier pleaded guilty.
