2 men get prison for 3 SD county burglary spree
• PIERPONT, S.D. (AP) -- A judge sentenced two men to prison time for a three-county burglary spree in northeast South Dakota. • According to court reports, 18-year-old Joey Severson, of Pierpont, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and was sentenced to eight years, with three years suspended. • KELO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/18GEqFi ) that 19-year-old Kris Freudenthal, of Hecla, pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary and received a four-year prison sentence. • Law enforcement officers from Day, Marshall and Brown counties arrested the men in August after the crime spree involving businesses and homes. • The judge also ordered the men to pay for damages. •
Prison walkaways from Rapid City back in custody
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Two South Dakota prison inmates who walked away from a community service work assignment last week in Rapid City are back in custody. • The Department of Corrections says 21-year-old Lucas Odle and 33-year-old Joseph Larson were picked up in the Denver suburb of Lakewood, Colo., on Friday, a day after they took off. • Odle's serving time for possession of a controlled substance out of Meade County. Larson is in prison for grand theft convictions in Butte and Pennington counties. •
South Dakota crash near Wagner kills 2 people
• WAGNER, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota authorities say two people have died in a one-vehicle crash on a gravel road near Wagner. • The Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Stephanie Jo Thompson, of Dell Rapids, was driving southbound when she lost control of the vehicle, which entered a ditch and rolled Sunday morning. She was wearing a seatbelt, but was partially ejected from the vehicle and died. • A passenger in the vehicle, 34-year-old Derek Gavin Weston, of Dell Rapids, was not wearing a seatbelt. He died after being thrown from the vehicle. •
