• Keon Stowers, intercepted Vander Maten's pass late in the second quarter and, picking up blocks, the 298-pounder rumbled 42 yards into the end zone with the first interception by a Jayhawk defensive lineman in 45 games. But a penalty for blocking in the back brought the ball back and moments later, Sims' fumble was recovered by South Dakota's Aaron Swift on the 2. • But the Coyotes failed to pick up a first down and a line drive punt out of their end zone was returned 29 to the 9 by Connor Embree. One play later, Heaps drilled a 5-yard bullet to McKay in the end zone for the Jayhawks' first scoring pass to a wide receiver in 17 games. • The Jayhawks' third TD came on a 12-play, 71-yard drive that was entirely on the ground. Sims went around left end for a 21-7 Kansas lead with 7:34 left in the third. • Vander Maten kept a drive alive with a 37-yard third-down pass to Tyson Graham Jr., and then capped the drive with a 9-yard run. South Dakota St. defeats North Dakota 35-28
• GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) -- Zach Zenner tied a school record with 295 yards rushing and had a career-high four touchdowns as South Dakota St. held on to defeat North Dakota 35-28 Saturday. • Zenner rushed for a 46-yard touchdown to give South Dakota St. (2-0) a 35-14 lead with 13:33 left to play. North Dakota (1-1) responded with two unanswered touchdowns before Jimmie Forsythe intercepted Joe Mollberg's pass at midfield with 1:31 left, preserving the Jackrabbits' win. • Zenner also caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Austin Sumner with 49 seconds left in the first half, putting the Jackrabbits ahead 21-7. Sumner was 10 of 21 for 157 yards and had two touchdowns. • Coming off the bench in the second half, Mollberg led UND with scoring drives of 62 and 42 yards. He was 15 of 23 for 259 yards. • Zenner also rushed for 295 yards during last season's first-round FCS playoff win against Eastern Illinois. •
