USD men's basketball coach David Boots retiring
• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- A former University of South Dakota basketball player and current assistant coach has been named interim head coach, following Tuesday's retirement of David Boots. • Joey James played for the Coyotes for two seasons from 1997 to 1999 and has been an assistant coach for the past 10 seasons. • James has been involved with all aspects of USD basketball, including as its top recruiter, and also helped Boots with game management and game preparation. • James graduated from USD in 2001 with a degree in recreation and earned his master's degree in athletic administration from USD in 2004. He turns 37 on Tuesday. • Boots left after 25 years as the winningest coach in program history, posting a 503-235 record. • A national search for the job will start after the upcoming season. •
Details but no name for body found in Black Hills
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Investigators have released a better description of the body found last weekend in the Black Hills but still don't have her identity. • Someone taking photos along Iron Mountain Road near Mount Rushmore discovered the decomposed female body. • Pennington County and Rapid City authorities say an autopsy determined the woman was of middle age, possibly 40 to 60 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with shoulder-length brunette or auburn hair. • She was wearing a T-shirt and Capri-style sweatpants. • Her race could not be confirmed, but she was possibly Caucasian. • Investigators believe she died sometime in the past month. • Partial fingerprints and potential DNA samples are being checked to see if they help in identifying her. Detectives are also checking missing persons reports. •
No reduced sentence for SD woman who shot husband
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A judge has refused to reduce the 65-year prison sentence of a New Underwood woman who shot her husband twice in the head three years ago.
