Brandon City Council puts park plan to public vote
• BRANDON, S.D. (AP) -- The Brandon City Council has decided to schedule a public vote on a $14.8 million park improvement project. • An Oct. 29 election has been scheduled on the bond resolution for Aspen Park. • The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/18gSD9A ) that two property owners told the council they support the improvements, but they are worried about how much property taxes will have to be increased to fund it. • Local softball and baseball associations have pledged money to the project. And a task force has identified other funding opportunities, such as naming rights for the baseball and softball field, playground area, concessions and more. •
SD Legislature looks for interns for 2014 session
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Legislature is looking for 22 college students to serve as interns during the 2014 legislative session that starts in January. • Authorities say the internship program is designed so students can gain a better understanding of government processes while they provide assistance to state lawmakers. Interns help legislative leaders deal with bills, constituent services and other tasks. • The interns earn college credit for their internships and are paid $4,800 for their work. • Applications for intern positions must be filed with the Legislative Research Council by Oct. 15. •
