A 14-year-old boy was charged with murder in juvenile court but authorities haven't said if he is the same boy in the rape case. •
2 to be inducted into SD Transportation Honor Hall
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Two people are being inducted into the South Dakota Transportation Hall of Honor next month. • A banquet will be held Sept. 5 in Rapid City for Dennis Landguth of Rapid City, a long-time employee of the South Dakota Department of Transportation. • A banquet will be held Sept. 18 in Sioux Falls for Bob Meister of Kalispell, Mont., a former highway superintendent in Union and Minnehaha counties. • Tickets for the banquets can be purchased from the state Transportation Department. •
Sioux Falls man gets 70 years for raping girl, 6
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls man is going to prison on a 70-year term for raping a 6-year-old girl. • A judge sentenced 30-year-old Christopher George Hartford Monday. He pleaded guilty in June to two counts of first-degree rape. • According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Hartford knows the girl and she told a classmate that he was giving sex with her. • Police say the contact happened multiple times. • Prosecutors say the girl reported the abuse in January while at school. •
'Wild Bill' Hickok's pistol going up for auction
• SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A San Francisco auction house says it's selling the gun "Wild Bill" Hickok was wearing when he was shot and killed. • Bonhams announced Monday that it will auction off the Smith & Wesson No. 2 revolver in November. It was on Hickok when Jack McCall shot him in the South Dakota town of Deadwood in 1876.
