The five-year program will include rural surgery at community-based and federal hospital systems in Sioux Falls, Yankton and at the VA. • The skill set will include cardiac and thoracic, head, neck and endocrine, neurocritical care, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedic, pediatric, plastic, transplant, trauma acute care, vascular, urology and surgical critical care. • Sanford Health will financially support the program and develop a surgical simulation laboratory located in Sioux Falls. • The first residents are scheduled to begin next summer. •
Winter wheat prices drop in South Dakota
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The U.S. Agriculture Department says the preliminary winter wheat price for the month of June has dropped 36 cents from the previous month. • The South Dakota office of the National Agriculture Statistics Service says the preliminary winter wheat price has fallen to $6.95. The spring wheat price, at $7.57, is 45 cents lower than in May. • Corn is at $6.89 per bushel, down a penny from the previous month. • Soybeans are up 10 cents from May at $14.70. • The Ag Department says the preliminary all sunflower price, at $23.20, is down 20 cents from the previous month. •
SBA disaster assistance available at Standing Rock
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Small Business Administration says low-interest federal disaster loans are available to certain private, nonprofit organizations on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation as a result of severe storms and flooding on May 25 through June 1. • The SBA says that organizations that provide essential governmental services on the reservation that spans North Dakota and South Dakota should begin the process by registering with FEMA. • The loans of up to $2 million can be used to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery, inventory and other business assets. The 2.875-percent-interest-rate loans can be financed with terms up to 30 years. • Interested organizations should register with FEMA. • The filing deadline is Aug. 26 for property damage and March 25 for economic injury applications. •
