SD, MN troopers conduct I-90 safety operation

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Highway Patrol troopers from South Dakota and Minnesota and local law officers are cracking down on traffic violators on a stretch of Interstate 90.
• The daylong enforcement effort between Chamberlain, S.D., and Fairmont, Minn., began at 6 a.m. Thursday. Officers are focused on enforcing laws dealing with seatbelts, speeding, and drinking and driving, on the interstate and also on state and county roads in the area.
• South Dakota Patrol Capt. Kevin Joffer and Minnesota Capt. John Ebner say the goal is to make the highways safer.

Tony Stewart to race at dirt track in South Dakota

• BRANDON, S.D. (AP) -- Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart is scheduled to race at Huset's Speedway near Brandon on July 3.
• Stewart will race a sprint car in a World of Outlaws event. It will be the first time he has raced a sprint car in South Dakota.
• Stewart started his career on dirt tracks in Indiana. He now makes select appearances at dirt tracks in addition to his NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule. He has raced at the track in West Fargo, N.D., several times in the past few years.

Longtime SD Mines women's hoops coach done

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The longtime women's basketball coach at the South Dakota School of Mines will not return next season.
• The Rapid City school issued a statement saying school officials and Barb Felderman mutually agreed not to renew her contract.
• Felderman has been the Lady Hardrockers coach for 32 years. She says, "I have lived my dreams."
• Felderman compiled a 474-397 record. She led teams to 11 conference championships and nine appearances in the NAIA tournament, including Final Four appearances in 1998 and 1999.
• The gymnasium floor in the school's King Center is being named in her honor.
