SD National Guard hosting training exercises
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota National Guard will host training exercises for 55 military units from several states and nations in the Black Hills starting Saturday. • The 29th annual Golden Coyote training exercise will provide military units from the Army, Navy and Air Force with training necessary to support overseas operations and homeland defense. The training runs through June 22. • Some of the training exercises include urban combat operations, land navigation, first aid and casualty evacuation. • The training exercises will occur throughout the Black Hills, in both urban and rural wilderness areas. •
Canton company pledges $100K for aquatic center
• CANTON, S.D. (AP) -- A philanthropic arm of Canton-based engine cooling systems company Adams Thermal Systems is giving $100,000 to the town's aquatic center. • KELO television reports (http://bit.ly/13eqzBa ) that ATS Cares has pledged $100,000 to the Make Waves Campaign for the Canton Aquatic Center. • Adams Thermal chief executive Mike Adams says the aquatic center is good for families and for Canton's economy. • Make Waves chairman Jonathan Toso says the campaign is grateful for the gift. •
SD panel proposes no sage grouse hunting season
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission is proposing that the state hold no hunting season for sage grouse this fall. • State wildlife officials say the bird's population has fallen in recent years in South Dakota and other western states. In South Dakota, sage grouse are found mainly in Butte and Harding counties. • State wildlife officials have been working with federal agencies and other states in an effort to prevent the bird from being listed as an endangered species.
