Former Texas congressman to speak at SD Ag Summit
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Former U.S. Rep. Charlie Stenholm of Texas will be the keynote speaker next month at South Dakota's annual Governor's Ag Development Summit. • Stenholm was a member of the Agriculture Committee during his 26 years in the U.S. House. South Dakota Agriculture Department officials say Stenholm earned a reputation for building bipartisan alliances in agriculture, resources conservation, food safety, Social Security, energy, health care and budgeting. • Stenholm is now a policy adviser at a Washington, D.C., law firm. • The agricultural summit will be held June 26 in Pierre. Chamber hosting Armed Forces Day ceremony
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Armed Forces Day on Saturday with a program that the public is invited to. • The event will begin with a musical prelude at 10 a.m., followed by the program at 10:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System. • Brig. Gen. Matthew Jamison, the Assistant Adj. General of the South Dakota Air National Guard, will give the keynote address and various awards will be handed out. •
SD man pleads guilty in synthetic drug conspiracy
• SIOXU FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota man pleaded guilty Friday to selling synthetic drugs in a case that began with an investigation of a Sioux Falls tobacco shop. • Brandon Morrison, 24, of Sioux Falls, was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and one count of money laundering. When sentenced Aug. 2, he faces up to 30 years in prison. • Authorities said the indictment resulted from an investigation involving the Roll With It stores in Sioux Falls.
