SD part of national settlement with drug company
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Attorney General Marty Jackley says South Dakota will get more than $1 million as its share of a national settlement with a pharmaceutical manufacturer that allegedly distributed substandard drugs. • Jackley says South Dakota joined with other states and the federal government in a $500 million dollar settlement to resolve allegations involving Ranbaxy, a company based in Gurgaon, India. He says the company allegedly manufactured, distributed and sold generic drugs whose strength, purity or quality fell below federal standards. • South Dakota's portion of the settlement is more than $1.1 million. Jackley says more than $761,000 will be kept by the federal government as the federal Medicaid share. The remaining $408,000 will go to the state general fund to offset alleged damages to the state's share of the Medicaid program's cost. •
Orgs with storm damage eligible for SBA loans
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Small Business Administration says low-interest federal disaster loans are available to certain private, nonprofit organizations in South Dakota because of an April winter snowstorm. • SBA Administrator Karen Mills says organizations that provide essential governmental services in Douglas, Hutchinson, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, Shannon and Turner counties are eligible for assistance. • The loans of up to $2 million can be used to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets. The loans carry a 2.875 percent interest rate and can be financed with terms up to 30 years. • Interested organizations should register with FEMA. The filing deadline is July 9. •
Indian Child Welfare Act summit starts Wednesday
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Kevin Washburn will be among federal and tribal leaders taking part in the first of a three-day summit focusing on Indian child foster care in South Dakota. • The summit starts Wednesday in Rapid City.
