Crazy Horse honors Ziolkowski with 800-ton blast
• CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, S.D. (AP) -- Crazy Horse Memorial is commemorating the 66th anniversary of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski (KOR'-zhack jew-uhl-KUFF'-skee) moving to the Black Hills to begin work on the carving. • The memorial in the southern Black Hills detonated an 880-ton blast on the mountain on Friday in honor of Korczak Day. • On May 3, 1947, Ziolkowski accepted the invitation from Lakota leaders to carve Crazy Horse Memorial. • The memorial is a mountain carving in progress that will honor Oglala Lakota warrior Crazy Horse. Work on the sculpture began in 1948. •
Farm Rescue getting $200,000 Bremer donation
• JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) -- The Farm Rescue organization is getting a large donation from the Otto Bremer Foundation and Bremer Bank. • The donations total $200,000 over two years and will be used for equipment, training and general operations. • The North Dakota-based Farm Rescue nonprofit provides planting and harvesting help free of charge to farm families stricken by a major illness, injury or disaster. Since 2006, the organization has helped more than 200 farm families in the Dakotas, Montana, Minnesota and Iowa. •
