Gibbs earns Groton P.E.O. Sisterhood Scholarship
• The academic P. E.O. Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year, was presented to Abby Cheryl Gibbs, a senior at Groton High School. This scholarship is in loving memory of Sheila Garness, who was a nearly a 50 year member of P. E. O. • Abby is the daughter of Steve and Ann Gibbs and plans to attend Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls and major in the field of surgical technology and receive an associate's degree. She would like to in time receive a teaching degree and a masters. • The P. E. O. Scholarship is a $500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, community service, academics, and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens of the U. S. and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application. • The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded January 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women. There are approximately 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with more than 350,000 initiated members. The P.E.O. Sisterhood own Cottey College for women, a two year liberal arts college, with the recent addition of selected four-year degrees. Cottey College is located in Nevada, Missouri.
