Celebrities raise $1.2 million for SD Rock academy
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A week of celebrity-packed events helped raise more than $1 million for a music academy for Sioux Falls Boys & Girls Clubs members. • A surprise appearance by KISS frontman Gene Simmons capped the week of events, which helped bring in $1.2 million for the Brenna Rock & Roll Academy. Other celebrities who showed their support included Alice Cooper, Vince Neil, George Lopez and Louie Anderson. • Dollar Loan CEO and Academy founder Chuck Brennan says not only was it an "incredible week of entertainment," but it was also a time for people to see the facility and learn about the mission. •
Parents invited to SDCHIP event in Rapid City
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- State officials will be in Rapid City this weekend encouraging parents to register their kids in a comprehensive child identification program. • SDCHIP representatives will be at the Youth & Family Services Kid's Fair at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Friday, Saturday and Sunday. • The South Dakota Child Identification Program generates packages of various identifying items of children for parents or guardians. The information includes dental impressions, a DNA cheek swab, a digital still photo, fingerprints and a video image interview. • SDCHIP is part of MASONICHIP, an initiative of the Masons. • Attorney General Marty Jackley says the identifying materials are returned to the child's family to be kept as an identification kit in the event that a child becomes missing. • The program is offered to the public at no charge. •
