(AP) -- Konner Beste came off the bench to score 40 points and Brooking rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Rapid City Central 73-61 in a consolation game at the South Dakota boys Class B basketball game on Friday. • Beste was instant offense, hitting his first five three-pointers for the Bobcats (18-7). He made eight of 11 three-pointers and went 14-for-20 overall from the field. He also had seven rebounds. • Tyler Nagy had 12 points and five assists for Brookings, which trailed 46-45 heading into the last quarter after being outscored 18-12 in the third. • Ian Barse and John Fierro had 17 points each for the Cobblers (10-13). •
Huron slips by RC Stevens at state AA
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Huron built a nine-point halftime lead and held off Rapid City Stevens 37-32 in the consolation round of the South Dakota boys Class AA basketball tournament on Friday. • Justin Decker had 12 points to lead the Tigers (17-8), who held the Raiders (10-15) to 29 percent shooting. Huron shot 38 percent and went 10-for-18 at the free throw line. • Adam Zwanziger had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for Huron. • Steven Schaeffer was the only Stevens player in double figures with 15 points. •
SD agency hosts wildfire training academy
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Wildland Fire agency is hosting a training academy for wildland firefighters. • The state agency reports that 266 firefighters have registered to attend the academy, which is being held in Fort Pierre on March 21-24. • Officials say firefighters from volunteer fire departments and state and federal agencies will use the training to gain fire qualifications and reinforce safety practices. • The academy is being funded by a grant from the U.S. Interior Department. Six South Dakota volunteer fire departments have applied for funding to attend the academy. •
