SD woman sentenced for dealing drugs near school
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota woman has been sentenced in federal court for dealing drugs near a school. • Forty-five-year-old Claudia Apple, of Martin, pleaded guilty in October to distribution of a controlled substance. • Authorities say the incident happened on Jan. 31, 2012, when Apple distributed 15 prescription pills within 1,000 feet of a school. • U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Viken sentenced Apple to one year in prison and six years of supervised release. •
North Dakota State defeats UMKC 69-58
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Taylor Braun scored 27 points and Marshall Bjorklund had 18 points and 10 rebounds to help North Dakota State defeat UMKC 69-58 Sunday night in the Summit League tournament quarterfinals. • Braun had 24 points in the second half and was 16 of 18 for the game from the free-throw line. Lawrence Alexander chipped in 14 points for the third-seeded Bison (23-9), who face No. 2 seed Western Illinois in the semifinals on Monday. The Leathernecks (22-7) beat South Dakota 54-53 on Saturday. • UMKC (8-24), the No. 6 seed, led 22-19 at halftime. But the Bison took the lead for good at 28-26 and stretched the lead to as many as 14 points. • Reserve Trinity Hall led the Kangaroos with 14 points. UMKC, which last won a Summit League tournament game since 2007, is leaving the league to join the Western Athletic Conference next season. •
IPFW defeats Oakland 91-72 in Summit quarterfinals
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Frank Gaines scored 23 points to lead IPFW to a 91-72 victory over Oakland in the quarterfinals of the Summit League tournament Sunday night. • Luis Jacobo had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Michael Kibiloski scored 15 points for IPFW. Both contributed four 3-pointers as the fifth-seeded Mastodons (15-16) shot 63 percent overall and beat the Golden Grizzlies for the third time in 19 days and advance to play regular-season Summit champion South Dakota State (23-9) in the semifinals Monday night.
