SD legislative panel looks at revenue prospects

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota legislative committee that puts together the state budget is working to determine how much money the state will have to spend next year.
• Economists for the Legislature and Gov. Dennis Daugaard's budget office will present estimates of tax collections in a Thursday meeting of the Legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee. The committee plans to meet later in the day to make a formal decision on how much revenue to expect in the budget year beginning July 1.
• The Appropriations Committee will put together the state budget before the main run of this year's legislative session ends next week.

Gatlin Brothers to perform at SD State Fair

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Marty Stuart and Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers will take the grandstand stage Friday, Aug. 30, at the South Dakota State Fair.
• Fair manager Jerome Hertel tells KSFY television (http://bit.ly/Yzy8ye) that the country acts round out a lineup that includes the Eli Young Band on Saturday, Aug. 31, and 3 Doors Down on Sunday, Sept. 1.
• Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers have been making music and touring since the 1970s. Their top hits include "All the Gold in California" and "Broken Lady."
• Tickets for the general public go on sale June 24.
• The fair runs Thursday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept. 2 in Huron.

Deputy Ag Secretary meeting with SD tribal leaders

• LOWER BRULE, S.D. (AP) -- Deputy Agriculture Secretary Kathleen Merrigan is touring a Native American-owned and operated business and meeting with tribal leaders on the Lower Brule Indian Reservation on Thursday.
• Merrigan will tour the Lakota Food facility Thursday afternoon. It's the first and only Native American business that produces, processes, packages and markets popcorn.
• Afterward, she will meet with tribal leaders from South Dakota's nine Indian tribes to discuss the U.S. Department of Agriculture's efforts to promote business development and job creation in rural areas of the state.
