Spearfish hospital receives new trauma designation
• SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) -- The Spearfish Regional Hospital in South Dakota has been cited by a national health care group for its trauma care. • The hospital's designation as a Level III trauma center recognizes around-the-clock emergency care and staff for resuscitation, surgery, and intensive care for most trauma victims. • The new status from the American College of Surgeons recognizes the Spearfish facility as one of the top five in the state to treat victims of violent injury. • A survey team inspected the hospital in December and evaluated its procedures. • The hospital serves a four-state area including northwest South Dakota, southwest North Dakota, northeast Wyoming and southeast Montana. •
Three SD Board of Education members reappointed
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard has reappointed three people whose terms were expiring on the South Dakota Board of Education. • The terms of Kelly Duncan of Vermillion, Stacy Phelps of Rapid City and Julie Mathiesen of Sturgis were extended on the nine-member board for another four years. • Duncan has been a member of the board since 1996. Phelps was first appointed to the group by Gov. Mike Rounds in 2008. • Mathiesen is the newest member of the board. She was initially appointed in February 2011. •
SD man admits to walking away from halfway house
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota man has pleaded guilty to walking away from a halfway house.
