Rapid City drug, counterfeiting operation busted
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Rapid City police say they have busted a major local drug trafficking and money counterfeiting operation. • The investigation began with the search of vehicle that was pulled over early Monday and ended with the searches of two homes, a motel room and a tattoo parlor. Officers confiscated $56,000 in cash, more than a dozen rifles and handguns, counterfeit money and equipment used to make it, and illegal drugs including methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. • Authorities say they found traces of cocaine in the vehicle, and search warrants led to more search warrants. Four people have been arrested on drug charges. Charges related to the alleged counterfeiting operation are pending. •
Labor Department helps students find internships
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Labor Department is encouraging college seniors and recent graduates to look for internships that provide training and can lead to permanent jobs. • State Labor Secretary Pam Roberts says internships offer work experience, networking and an opportunity for students to improve their work records. She says businesses that offer internships and entry-level positions get applicants who have up-to-date training and are eager to work and learn. • Roberts says internships help companies fill temporary workforce needs and also find permanent employees. • The Labor Department has a listing of jobs and internships on the Internet at www.sdjobs.org . •
USD exhibit to showcase student photos from abroad
• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- The University of South Dakota is showcasing student photography from around the world in a new exhibition. • "Images from Abroad" in the first floor of the Academic Commons features photos taken by USD and Cosumnes River College students who participated in a faculty-led study tour of Ireland, Wales, England and France last summer. • The photos show the students' range of vision and emotional response to their (Continued on page 17)
