Holiday tours at Governor's Mansion Monday
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The last day to take a public tour to view Christmas decorations at the Governor's Mansion is Monday. • Holiday tours will be conducted at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. • Tickets for the tour are free, though there is a limit of 40 people per tour. Tickets can be obtained from the Pierre Chamber of Commerce. •
Corn Palace director elected to fairs board
• MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) -- The director of the world's only Corn Palace has been elected to represent South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin on the International Association of Fairs and Expositions board of directors. • Mark Schilling was featured recently on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report show touting his Mitchell, S.D.-based Corn Palace. Now, he'll be one of eight zone directors on the IAFE board. His zone also covers Manitoba, Saskatchewan and part of Ontario. • The board position is a three-year term. Schilling has been active with several fair and tourism agencies and was recently appointed by South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard to the state's Board of Tourism. • The Corn Palace drew national attention this fall when Colbert highlighted the drought's impact on its murals in a segment called "A Shucking Disaster." •
No. 11 Penn State women beat South Dakota St 60-50
• STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Nikki Greene scored 15 points and Alex Bentley 13 as No. 11 Penn State pulled away in the second half to beat South Dakota State 60-50 Sunday. • Bentley also had five assists to give the senior guard 503 for her career, the sixth player to surpass 500 for the Lady Lions (9-2). She also moved into 12th place on the program's career scoring list with 1,474. • Penn State broke a 25-25 halftime tie by scoring the first seven points of the second half, including four by Greene. An 8-0 run later in the half put the Lady Lions in front 48-35 with 6:30 left. • Maggie Lucas, who came in averaging 22.1 points for Penn State, made only 2 of 12 shots and had nine points, but she made five steals and blocked a career-high four shots.
