Regents approve sustainability degree at BHSU
• SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) -- Black Hills State University will begin offering a graduate degree in sustainability starting next fall. • The Board of Regents approved the master of science degree during its meeting Wednesday. The degree will be offered online. Based on demand, it may also be offered at off-campus centers in Rapid City and Sioux Falls. • Graduates of the sustainability program will be able to go into natural resources management, renewable energy and community planning in industries like wind energy and geothermal energy. •
School of Mines search for new president underway
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has begun a search for a new president, but an announcement isn't expected until next spring. • South Dakota Board of Regents director Jack Warner tells the Rapid City Journal (http://bit.ly/UBOvbH) that the regents are allowing plenty of time for a process that uses broad base input from the campus and surrounding community. • The hiring committee is made up of 19 people, including students and faculty, community members, regents and two professional consultants. • Warner says the goal is to hire a leader with some prominence and experience. • Duane Hrncir (HURN'-sur) has been serving as acting president since President Robert Wharton died in September. • The new president's expected start date is July 1. •

• LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Jesse Wright closed on his first saddle bronc season title Wednesday night at the National Finals Rodeo, winning the seventh round with an 84-point ride on Gold Coast. • Wright, from Milford, Utah, leads the season standings with $206,274. • "I was tasting it last year and I missed it by just a little bit," Wright said.
