• Prosecutors say Gary refused to turn off his truck when asked by a federal officer, led the officer on a high-speed chase and drove his vehicle at the officer during the chase.

More prairie dog disease confirmed in South Dakota

• FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A disease that can devastate prairie dog colonies has been confirmed on the Fort Pierre National Grassland in South Dakota.
• District Ranger Ruben Leal says the bacteria that causes sylvatic plague was found in fleas collected from prairie dog colonies.
• Sylvatic plague was first detected in South Dakota in 2004. The disease has been migrating north and west. It also has been detected on the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, in Badlands National Park and on the Lower Brule Indian Reservation.
• There have not been any confirmed cases of the plague in people in South Dakota.

Rapid City fire kills 4, including 3 children

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Four people have died in a fire in Rapid City. Three of the victims were children.
• The blaze in what authorities described as a multi-family structure in the west side of the city was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday. An adult was pronounced dead at the scene, and the three children were pronounced dead at a local hospital.
• Lt. Brent Long of the Rapid City Fire Department says the cause of the fire is under investigation. He says officials cannot immediately release the names and ages of the victims, but more information is expected to be released later Wednesday.
• Long says such a fire is unusual in South Dakota.
• The American Red Cross helped 17 displaced people find a place to stay for the night.

Firing of Rapid City parks director upheld

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The Rapid City Council has determined that Mayor Sam Kooiker (KWAY'-kur) was justified in firing the city's parks and recreation director and has denied Jerry Cole more than $46,000 in severance pay.
