Rapid City carjacking suspect hurt in police chase
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A carjacking in Rapid City ended when the suspect rolled the vehicle following a chase with police that reached speeds of 120 mph. • Police say the man stole a car from another man in a parking lot at gunpoint Monday afternoon, and later rolled it on Interstate 90 after authorities who gave chase used road spikes to flatten the tires. • The 35-year-old suspect was taken to a Sturgis hospital with what police said were non-life threatening injuries. He was released Monday night and arrested on several charges including robbery and eluding law enforcement. •
South Dakota cattle on feed down from a year ago
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota feedlots with capacities of 1,000 or more head had 195,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market as of Oct. 1 • The Agriculture Department says the inventory is down 10,000 head over the year but up 10,000 head over the month. • Placements in feedlots during September totaled 50,000 head, down 1,000 from last year but up 16,000 from August. • Marketings of fed cattle during September totaled 39,000 head, up 4,000 from 2011 and up 1,000 from the previous month. •
Mitchell man claims $22,195 lottery jackpot
• MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) -- A Mitchell man has claimed a $22,195 lottery jackpot. • Robert Koepke (KUHP'-kee) won the jackpot in the Oct. 17 Dakota Cash drawing, and claimed the prize on Monday. He says he hasn't decided how he'll spend his winnings. • Dakota Cash is played only in South Dakota. The jackpot sits at $20,000 for this Wednesday's drawing. The odds of winning the jackpot are one in about 325,000. •
SD gov appoints new Third Judicial Circuit judge
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed a Clear Lake attorney as the next judge in South Dakota's Third Judicial Circuit. • Deuel County State's Attorney Greg Stoltenburg will succeed Judge David (Continued on page 27)
