Mines students celebrate 100th birthday of M Hill
• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is celebrating the 100th birthday of the school's M Hill.
• Civil engineering students at the school are hosting a campus party Friday to celebrate the milestone birthday. The free barbecue kicks off at noon at the March/Dake Plaza, just south of Peterson Hall.
• The Mines student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers will offer demonstrations of how the original "M'' was laid out on the hill 100 years ago.
• A surveying telescope will be available for students, faculty and staff to eye the iconic letters from afar.
