• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- Zach Zenner ran for 197 yards and two touchdowns and South Dakota State held on to beat UC Davis 12-8 on Saturday. • Zenner, coming off a 278-yard game in a win at Southeastern Louisiana last week, carried 21 times and scored on runs of 61 and 23 yards against UC Davis. Both conversion attempts failed for the Jackrabbits (2-1) in their home opener. The 23-yard run came early in the fourth quarter for South Dakota State. • UC Davis (1-2) scored first on Jonathan Perkins' 69-yard interception return. Alex Cannon ran for a two-point conversion, but the Aggies' offense never got past South Dakota State's 25-yard line. • Both schools used to be members of the Great West Conference. UC Davis is in its first season in the Big Sky. •
Volga man killed in train-tractor accident
• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- A Volga man has died in a train-tractor crash near Brookings. • The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 71-year-old Stanley Hesby was traveling north in his tractor when a Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern Railroad single locomotive struck the tractor about 12:35 p.m. Friday. The impact tore the tractor cab from the rear axle. Hesby was ejected and died. The train's driver and passenger were not hurt. • The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. •

• WASHINGTON (AP) -- So much for silence from telemarketers at the cherished dinner hour, or any other hour of the day. • Complaints to the government are up sharply about unwanted phone solicitations, raising questions about how well the federal "do-not-call" registry is working.
