• "It was a good opening game," said Coach Shaun Wanner. "I couldn't be more proud of how well we played. I know they were disappointed, but there are plenty of games ahead for them. We keep getting better at practice and we'll keep getting better in the games."
• Roncalli was favored to come in the game and run away with it, but Roncalli looked more like the amateur team and Groton the better team. "We had had more total offense than Roncalli," Wanner said, "and by the way, they had seven to eight starters returning both ways and we had only one."
