DOT, McCook to replace bridge near Emery

• MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Department of Transportation and the McCook County Highway Department are replacing a bridge one-half mile east of Emery on 261st Street.
• The construction project will involve replacing the existing bridge, grading, riprap and surfacing.
• During construction, 261st Street will be closed between 430th Avenue and 431st Avenue.
• The replacement is expected to be finished by Oct. 15.

• The DOT asks motorists to watch for trucks hauling construction materials in the area.

Annual Rosebud Fair and Rodeo starts Friday

• ROSEBUD, S.D. (AP) -- It's a weekend full of activity on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.
• The 136th annual Rosebud Fair and Open Rodeo starts Friday in Rosebud at the John Waln Memorial Rodeo Arena. The event features dancers of all ages performing in a variety of wacipi (wah-chee-pee), or powwow, competitions as well as rodeo events.
• Concessions will be available.
• The event lasts through Sunday.

Auction cancelled for SD land considered sacred

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The planned auction of nearly 2,000 acres of land in South Dakota's picturesque Black Hills that is considered sacred by American Indian tribes has been cancelled, though it wasn't immediately clear why.
• Brock Auction Company planned to auction five tracts of land owned by local residents Leonard and Margaret Reynolds on Saturday. But a message on the auction house's website Thursday said it has been cancelled at the land owners' direction.
