Report says SD drought conditions mostly unchanged
• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- State Climatologist Dennis Todey (TAH'-dee) says drought conditions in South Dakota are largely unchanged except for a small area in the Black Hills that received some rain. • Todey says rain and somewhat cooler temperatures reduced the drought impact in part of the Black Hills. He says the central Black Hills have received above-average precipitation in the past 30 days. • Todey says rains also have helped some pastures in western South Dakota, easing fire danger slightly. Rain and cooler temperatures helped prevent conditions from worsening in parts of the state. • The climatologist says small areas have received rains that could help soybeans recover some yield. • The national drought report indicates that about 88 percent of South Dakota was in some level of drought as of Tuesday, with the rest abnormally dry. •
