Sen. Johnson announced $3.1M in development grants
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Sen. Tim Johnson says the U.S. Treasury Department has awarded a total of $3.1 million in grants to eight South Dakota financial institutions that promote development in low-income areas. • Johnson says the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund seeks to create jobs and promote economic growth in communities. He says the grants will help entrepreneurs get money to start businesses, help developers build affordable housing, create construction jobs and help community organizations provide financial training to people. • Grants are going to the Mobridge Economic Development Corp., Dakota Resources in Sioux Falls, Northeast South Dakota Economic Corp. in Sisseton, Four Bands Community Fund in Eagle Butte, Hunkpati Investments Inc. in Fort Thompson, Lakota Federal Credit Union Steering Committee in Kyle, and Mazaska Owecaso Otipi Financial Inc. in Pine Ridge. •
