SD man indicted for involuntary manslaughter
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A federal grand jury has indicted a McLaughlin man on a charge of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly causing a fatal crash when he was driving while intoxicated. • Brendan Johnson, U.S. Attorney for South Dakota, says 32-year-old Jody Red Bird has pleaded not guilty to the charge. If Red Bird is convicted, he could face a penalty of up to eight years in prison and a $250,000 fine. • Johnson says Red Bird is accused of driving while heavily intoxicated and causing an accident that killed a passenger in his vehicle. •
International juggling contest comes to S. Dakota Associated Press
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Objects will be flying through the air as some of the best jugglers in the world descend on Sioux Falls this week for the World Juggling Federation International Championships. • But don't expect knives, torches or a clown riding a unicycle. This is intense, high-caliber juggling for sport. Some even call it the Olympics of juggling. • The competition kicks off Tuesday at the Sioux Falls Arena with preliminary competitions. More than 40 events are scheduled throughout the five-day competition. • The finals are scheduled for Sunday, which ESPN3 will televise live. • Free juggling workshops for beginners also will be offered throughout the week. • World Juggling Federation founder Jason Garfield is giving a 45-minute perform (Continued on page 17)
