Family-owned farms being honored at State Fair
• HURON, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota State Fair will honor farm families that have spent 100 or 125 years on a farm during an event on Aug. 30. • A farm or ranch is eligible for the Century Farm award if at least 80 acres of original land has been continuously owned by the same family for 100 years or longer. A farm earning the Quasquicentennial Farm award must meet the same acreage requirements and be owned by the same family for 125 years or longer. • Application forms can be obtained online for both the Century Farm and the Quasquicentennial Farm recognition at www.sdfbf.org or by calling 605-353-8052. The deadline is Aug. 13. • The South Dakota State Fair will run Aug. 30-Sept. 3 at the State Fairgrounds in Huron. •
Sioux Falls hosting eco-camp for kids
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The city of Sioux Falls is hosting an eco-camp for kids this week. • The camp, which runs from Tuesday through Friday, will teach kids about water resources, the built and natural environment, recycling, horticulture and wellness. It will be held at Sertoma Park. • Sioux Falls' Sustainability Program is hosting the camp in conjunction with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps.
