• Randall, 51, is a financial planner who first was elected as South Dakota's national committeeman four years ago. He said he believes Republicans must work as a team to win elections.
• "Ladies and gentlemen, we need a party of addition and multiplication, not a party of subtraction and division," Randall told the convention delegates.
• Unruh said he wanted to be on the RNC, the party's national governing body, because he believes more and more people are giving up their freedom in exchange for government handouts.
• "I will not be silent on any issue that threatens our freedom or liberty in this country," he said.
• Each state has three members on the RNC, the state party chair and a commit

teeman and committeewoman.
• In the elections for RNC members, each county delegation got to cast votes equal to the number of votes Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard received in the county two years ago.Randall got 97,651 votes to Unruh's 60,292. Kading won with 140,979 votes to Van Scharrel's 16,964.
• Kading, 61, has worked for many years in local GOP positions and as a volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center. She said she is a common-sense conservative who supports gun rights and knows how to raise money.
• "I carry my pistol in my purse because my shotgun won't fit," she said.
• Van Scharrel, a teacher, said she has worked as a volunteer for the Republican Party and abortion opponents. She said the federal budget must be balanced and government should work to give young people a brighter future.
• "I really care what we're doing to our country. What we're leaving right now as our legacy is really disgraceful," Van Scharrel said.

Navy sec: USS South Dakota to serve for decades

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus says a new Virginia-class submarine bearing the name USS South Dakota is scheduled to be built by 2017 and will serve the country for more than three decades.
• The submarine will be the third Navy vessel to bear the name of the Rushmore state.
• Mabus spoke in Sioux Falls on Saturday at the ship-naming ceremony, which
