Gienapp, Thompson to receive State Bar award

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The University of South Dakota Student Bar Association is honoring a judge and an attorney at the State Bar's annual meeting Friday in Rapid City.
• Third Circuit Court Judge David R. Gienapp of Madison and Pierre attorney Charles M. Thompson will be presented with the 2012 Marshall M. McKusick Award at the meeting.

• The McKusick Award is presented annually to a member of the South Dakota Bar for their contributions to the legal profession.

Ashlan Ramsey advances in Public Links

• NESHANIC STATION, N.J. (AP) -- Ashlan Ramsey parred the par-5 18th hole to beat South Korea's Jennifer Yang 1-up on Thursday in the third round of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links at Neshanic Valley.
• The 16-year-old Ramsey, from Milledgeville, Ga., will face Grace Na of Alameda, Calif., on Friday morning in the quarterfinals. Na advanced with a 5-and-3 victory over Kristine Odaiyar of Ocaala, Fla.
• In the second round Thursday morning, Ramsey beat Emilie Burger of Hoschton, Ga., 4 and 3.
• In the other quarterfinals in the lower half of the bracket, Kim Kaufman of Clark, S.D., will play Thailand's Chirapat Jao-Javanil. In the upper bracket, Alice Jeong of Gardena, Calif., will face Annie Park of Levittown, N.Y., and Lakareber Abe of Angleton, Texas, will play Kyung Kim of Chandler, Ariz.
• The tournament is limited to players who don't hold privileges at any course that doesn't extend playing privileges to the general public.
