• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Board of Regents has given three state universities approval to begin planning new degrees in science fields.
• Black Hills State University is exploring an associate degree in applied health sciences.
• The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is looking at a bachelor's degree in applied biological sciences, and the University of South Dakota is planning a bachelor's degree in medical biology.
• After the schools finish planning, they must return to the Board of Regents for fi

nal approval to offer the degrees.
• The regents also approved five new minors. Those minors include audio production at Dakota State University, environmental engineering and sustainability engineering at the School of Mines and Technology, and accounting and international business at the University of South Dakota.
