• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Rain is slowing planting progress in some areas of South Dakota, but the moisture is helping crop development.
• The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in the latest crop and weather report that the past week offered 3.9 days suitable for field work. Major activities included planting of row crops, lining up seed delivery, weed control, caring for livestock, calving and lambing.

• Winter wheat is rated at 3 percent poor, 24 percent fair, and 73 percent in good to excellent condition. Spring wheat is rated at 1 percent poor, 22 percent fair and 77 percent good to excellent.
• The State Climate Office of South Dakota says heavy rains and hail covered several counties in the east central part of the state roughly along a band from Mitchell to Flandreau.
